Is there an upland bird season?
Our upland bird hunting season runs August 15 through April 30, giving hunters one of the longest and most flexible seasons in Michigan. A deposit is required to book a hunt with our team.
What time do you schedule hunts?
We offer morning hunts from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and afternoon hunts from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, making it easy to schedule the perfect outing for your group. We recommend arriving 15-30 minutes before your scheduled hunt time.
Do I need a hunting license?
No hunting license is required to hunt at our preserve.
Do I need to wear hunter orange?
Yes, hunter orange (blaze orange) apparel is required while you are hunting in the field. Hunters must stay on Pheasant Ridge property - no access to bordering land is permitted.
Is alcohol allowed?
For everyone’s safety, alcohol is not permitted during your hunt. However, you’re welcome to supply and enjoy alcoholic beverages after the hunt in the lodge. We are happy to provide fridge space for anything you’d like to store during your visit.
Can I rent a gun?
We offer a limited number of shotgun rentals for $40 per day, as well as ammunition available for $20 per box. Supplies are limited, so we strongly recommend calling ahead to reserve your gun and shells before your hunt.
Is steel shot allowed?
At preserves, both steel and lead shot can be used, so hunters can choose what works best for their gun, choke, and preferred load style.
Do I need a bird vest on guided hunts?
No need to bring a specific vest - our guides will take care of your harvested birds and pick them up for you throughout the hunt.
What type of firearm and ammo do you recommend?
Gauge: 12 or 20

1 1/4 oz #5 (classic pheasant load)
1 1/8 oz #6 (lighter, early season)
High-velocity loads for long, fast flushes.
How much ammo do I need to bring?
It is very user dependent based on your ability, but we recommend you bring 1-2 boxes of your favorite ammo.
